Portraits of Melaka in Sephia…

April 1st, 2007 by douglastay

Artist_5I had a remarkable weekend in Melaka. Eddie’s family is super friendly . hahaa..Thank you for the hospitality. I haven’t take any photo for a long time and this trip allowed me to shoot quite a number of photos. I tried out the sephia mode in my camera. I never like taking photo of people much (most probably I dont have the skill yet, hahaa….), but after this trip, I find taking photo of people’s expression kinda interesting though!!! hmm..the photo of the artist was shot in A’Famosa. He had very intense expression once in a while. Like the next photo of his. :) I like the photo of the A’Famosa (with the canon)! and the Iguana guy. Pretty Iguana ..Iguana_1

Tomb_stone_1

Singer St_paul

These two singers are not chinese but they sang superb Chinese old song from Teresa Teng. They sat next to a large 17th century tomb stone. Can’t help but I am having this ‘irony’ feeling when I took that picture. That statue is St. Paul. Have a feeling that he was looking at you?? The following photo is interesting. It gave me the ‘looking through the window as time passed’ feeling. The tomb was like 16th 17th century but at the other end was a 21st century luxury condo. I didn’t manage to wait till the couple get out of the picture…haha..too many people walking around!

Window_through_time Couple

At night, we visited the Jonker Walk. An interesting place with lots of food and antics. The photo on the left was interesting. A young couple among a whole crowd of old people listening to open air karaoke singing. The photo below..I wondered why that kid want to buy hair pins…

Kid Kidline_dancing_8

Two kids (both down syndrome i think) were looking or waiting for their parents practising line dancing inside a ‘hui guan’. There are at least 5 or 6 ‘hui guan’ having line dancing lesson there in Jonker Walk. See that uncle making sugar cane juice? hahaa…I bought a cup from him after I took this photo.

Sugar_cane Vinyl_record

This uncle was selling old old old vinyl record in the Junker Walk. I think he did it as a hobby though because he did said some were not worth buying..:) , Hui Jiun bought one for RM 20 (for his dad).

I do not have photo on the food we ate. Finally tried the famous satay celup. :) and pork satay (kuching pasar’s pork satay still taste better i think..sorry eddie). Chicken rice ball was nice..that’s about it…back to reality ..lots of assignments coming up.

MY NEXT BIG EVENT!

March 16th, 2007 by douglastay

Kershawmain_1 Other than having a slightly more interesting and exciting campus life, my student life is more or less similiar to every other university students. Searching for internship opportunity is one of my top priority now as to secure a better job after I graduate. But before I graduate, I had a dream! Those who know me well might have thought of it….to save the whales? close!! I want to join an EXPEDITION!!! This might sound nothing much but the expedition I intended to join is the an expedition to study Climate Change on the ArtRollinomain_1ic Edge or to do an Bahamian Reef Survey Expedition or to study the Grey Whale Migration! These expeditions organised by Earthwatch Institute is so cool!!!Megillmain_1

The only problem is to find someone to go with me and to get funded! hahaa..Got Cassie to go with me so now is down to money! An expedition cost around 1500 pound per person!!!! hahaa…But these money are put to good use though!! OK..plan to get sponsor is on…lets wait and see…I wonder if Kuching’s newsprint is interested in the expedition…they published my photos and story..they sponsored half of my expedition cost! hmm…kinda far-fetch though..hahaa..wait and see!!

Maternal Instinct

August 31st, 2006 by douglastay

While I was having a break during one futsal session, I saw a female dog with two puppies straying around in front of a building by the road side. Then I noticed the most amazing thing. A car was making a U turn in the area where the puppies were frolicking around. When the mother noticed the reversing car, she dashed out to her puppies and gathered them in one corner. Astonishingly, the puppies obeyed the female dog and stayed put until the car was gone. Then they continue to play. Female animal have the same maternal instinct to protect their offspring as we human. Aren’t we suppose to treat animal more humanely? Pups_whelps

**The word humane might originate from the word human. So be nice to animals we should, human! :-)

END of YEAR 1…

Dsc00673
The last paper of Semester 2 final is Engineering Thermodynamic. Let me add in a few Law to sum up what I had learnt from the thermodynamic module.

First Law of Dougie: Increase in entropy inside a British Professor would increase the tendency of saying ‘Bloody Hell ‘ repeatitively
Proof of Dougie’s First Law: As a person grows older, the entropy inside the body increases (growing process is irreversible). The old Prof ‘Mickey’* says ‘Bloody Hell !’ for more than 6 time in less than 10 minutes when I ask him a question.

The Second Law of Dougie: Low quality of teaching would reverse the evolution process upon the lecturer himself.
Proof of Dougie’s Second Law: Let the quality of teaching be X (High quality teaching has value of X approaching 1) . The value of X for Dr. John’s teaching is approximately 0.1221. Thus, he has stop shaving since then and sooner or later, he would be named Dr. Tarzan. Let’s give him a few more month, to grow more facial hair, before we crown him as Dr. Tarzan. Shall we?

Assumptions made for these 2 Law:
a) You might or might not understand what I am writing.
b) Actual name is not reveal to protect the privacy of those mentioned.
c) ‘Dr. John’ is not refering to ‘Dr. John’ who teaches Professional Skill in
Chemical Eng. Semester 1 module. Or is he the one??

*** I need some intellectual feed back on this ! ***

Pure Madness!!

April 16th, 2006 by douglastay

National Geographic is an intellectual magazine and Why the government has to do something awful like this?? It is an insult to the readers as well as the National Geographic Society!! Look at what they have done?P1010132

This photo appeared on the March 2006 issue in an article concerning the Celts and the black marker were drawn across the women’s bare breast !! They were group of celts participating in a ritual welcoming the come of summer!! Those who actually read this magazine wouldn’t consider the picture shown above as pornography for God sake! We consider it as culture and we wouldn’t get a hard on out of it. It is the first time I encounter such thing for the passed 11 years I have been reading National Geographic Magazine ! F***!!

Father and Daughter!

March 19th, 2006 by douglastay

Image035 I finally found this photo after 4 days of intense searching on the net. This photo was taken in Malaysia in 1977 by free-lance photographer Dave Harvey and published in National Geographic Magazine that year. No big deal? Listen to this…
About 30 years ago, NASA sent out two space probes, called the Voyager into space, destined to leave the solar system into the interstellar space (somewhere beyond our solar system). The Voyager carried a gold plated disc, called the GOLDEN RECORD, containing sounds and images portraying the diversity of life and culture on Earth. It also contained greeting from Earth in 55 languages of different races on Earth. The Golden Record was intended to allow alien life forms that intercept the Voyager learn about Earth. The photograph shown above, taken in Malaysia, was titled Father and Daughter. It was one of the 116 photos recorded in the Golden Record. The photo below is the Golden Record. Isn’t this great? I wonder if both of them know about this…

Voyager01***The Voyager is now at the edge of the solar system and it is still constantly sending images and sound back to Earth.

This is the photo of our school trip to Gua Tempurung. These are some of my classmates. As you can see, mostly are girls. More than half of my class are girls, I think. Had a great time walking and crawling through dark cave. Hahaa.. Can’t wait for the next Outdoor Club activities.
